Getting tired of the same old Instagram Stories? Get ready for stop motion, the newest feature in Instagram’s story camera.

The tool allows you to take a series of photos, string them together into a short stop-motion video and post them to your story.

You can edit the videos with filters, stickers, and texts, just like any other post to Stories. We haven’t yet found a limit on the length that the videos can be — we were able to stitch together up to 50 frames.

Making good stop-motion videos takes some practice — spacing out the photos such that the effect is relatively smooth is harder than it looks. But even if your videos aren’t perfect, you can now use stop motion to create cool effects with new objects and settings.

As the newest in a fresh lineup of unique features including shared live streams and Superzoom that have rolled out over the past few days, the stop-motion camera underscores Instagram’s recent commitment to original tools, and to differentiating itself from competitors like Snapchat and Twitter’s Vine Camera.
